Why Filtration Matters Here

Filter cartridges for refining and petrochemical plants — process feed, catalyst protection, cooling water, hydraulics and instrument air. Factory-direct from PLEATPURE.

  • Process feed cartridges that keep carryover and fines out of columns and exchangers
  • Catalyst bed protection elements that defend reactor beds from poisons and debris
  • Cooling water filtration to hold heat exchanger fouling in check
  • High-pressure hydraulic elements for pumps, compressors and control valves
  • Instrument air coalescing elements for clean, dry control air
  • Media and seals matched to hot, corrosive refinery streams

APPLICATIONS

Filter Applications in Petrochemical & Refinery Filtration

Application PointRecommended CartridgeWhy
Process feedPleated synthetic or metal media, 1–25 µmRemoves catalyst fines, corrosion products and carryover before they reach columns, exchangers and pumps.
Catalyst bed protectionPleated or depth cartridge, 1–10 µmKeeps bed poisons and fines out of the reactor so catalyst life and run length hold to plan.
Cooling waterPleated or bag cartridge, 25–100 µmStops fouling in heat exchangers, coolers and tower nozzles before it cuts heat transfer.
Hydraulic systemsHigh-pressure hydraulic elements, 3–10 µmPumps, compressors and control valves have tight clearances that debris can score or jam.
Instrument airCoalescing element, 0.01–0.1 µmRemoves oil and water so control valves, transmitters and analyzers stay reliable.

SELECTION GUIDE

How to Choose Filters for Petrochemical & Refinery Filtration

1. Map every loop

Process feed, hydraulics, cooling water and instrument air each need a different micron and housing. List flow, pressure, temperature and contamination source for each.

2. Match micron to the duty

Reactor feed runs 1–10 µm, hydraulics 3–10 µm, cooling water 25–100 µm. Finer is not always better — it only shortens element life.

3. Confirm compatibility first

Hot hydrocarbons, caustic and sour services need media and seals that resist both temperature and chemistry. Confirm before quoting.

4. Size for flow and pressure drop

Worked example: 100 GPM process feed at 150 psi — four 40-inch pleated 5 µm cartridges with 2–4 psi clean ΔP leaves comfortable margin.

5. Change on ΔP, not calendar

Continuous operation means no spare time. Track differential pressure and change on trigger; stage spares before turnaround.

CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS

Common Filtration Challenges

High temperature and pressure

Use metal or high-temperature synthetic media in housings rated for the loop. Confirm operating temperature before quoting — it drives the whole selection.

Corrosive and aggressive streams

Specify 316L hardware and compatible media and seals. Caustic, sour and chloride services each need their own materials review.

24/7 continuous operation

Plan change-outs on ΔP triggers with spare elements staged on site. A short planned stop beats an unplanned trip during a run.

FAQ

Petrochemical & Refinery Filtration — FAQ

What micron rating do refinery process feed filters use?

Most process feed and reactor protection duties run 1–10 µm pleated media. The exact rating depends on the catalyst, the stream and the downstream equipment.

How often should petrochemical filter cartridges be replaced?

On pressure drop, not the calendar. A 10–15 psi rise above the clean reading is the usual trigger; in continuous service that can mean 3–12 months per element.

Can you supply filter cartridges for high-temperature streams?

Yes — metal media and high-temperature synthetic media cover hot process and lube duties. Send the operating temperature and fluid chemistry with your enquiry.

Do you make cartridges for corrosive or sour service?

Yes — 316L hardware and media and seals matched to the fluid. Tell us the stream chemistry so we can confirm compatibility before quoting.

Do your filter cartridges meet refinery safety and quality standards?

PLEATPURE elements are manufactured with CE, RoHS and REACH compliance. Certificates and material documentation ship with every order.

Can you supply samples or private-label elements for our brand?

Yes — samples ship for validation, and private-label production with your branding is available. Send your housing dimensions and duty for a match.
